Devastating Injury Blow To Islanders & Alexander Romanov

A brutal blow for the NY Islanders and defenseman Alexander Romanov. He will undergo surgery to repair a torn ACL in his right knee and will be out six to eight months.

The injury occured in Tuesday night's game against the NY Rangers. On the play, it appeared innocent enough, as Romanov threw a hit on the end boards on Mika Zibanejad. He continued to play out the shift in his own zone, but you can see him shaking out his right leg.

It's another devastating blow for Romanov, who also missed 65 games last year after season-ending surgery on a shoulder injury in November. He lasted just three games in his comeback before going down for the year yet again.

Romanov, 26, is in the second season of an eight-year, $50 million contract ($6.25M AAV).

More to come...
