The Kraken have put a 10-week timeline on their five-time 20-goal scorer. He has three goals and five assists for eight points thus far this season across 11 games.
"He's a big part of our team," said Kraken head coach Lane Lambert. "We're going to have to step up, and other guys are going to have to fill in that void."
He missed Saturday night's 5-1 loss to the Minnesota Wild. The injury came during Seattle's Thursday night tilt against the Utah Mammoth, a 5-3 victory for the Kraken.
For now, Kaapo Kakko has stepped into his spot on the top line with Matty Beniers and Jordan Eberle.
McCann to miss significant time for second straight season
It's another troubling injury for McCann, who missed 30 games last season as well, due to recurring lower-body ailments throughout the year. He still finished with 20 goals and 40 points in his 52 games played.
The 30-year-old McCann is a 12-year NHL veteran and has recorded 207 goals and 239 assists for 446 points in his 731 career regular-season games. In addition to his 5+ years with the Kraken, he's also suited up for the Pittsburgh Penguins, Florida Panthers and Vancouver Canucks.
