As the Toronto Maple Leafs continue their Western swing, GM John Chayka has taken stock on the latest status of the walking wounded and provided some injury updates to key players.

Starting with the team's most important blueliner, Chris Tanev. He's been out since taking an innocuous bump in front of the net over two weeks ago and has missed the last seven games. The 36-year-old veteran is traveling with the team, and took part in his first full skate with the team this morning since his upper-body injury. He was wearing the red no-contact sweater.

“It’s progressing. This is a morning skate, but he’ll get back in practice here shortly, hopefully, and then he’ll progress to return to play. All the diagnosis and everything we heard was really positive and optimistic, and like I said, progressing nicely,” Chayka said.

Tanev is still out week-to-week.

Tavares not yet skating with team

On to John Tavares, the former captain and veteran center. He's also been out on a week-to-week basis since October 15th, and has begun skating on his own.

“He’s a pretty unique athlete, very attuned to his body and what he needs to do and he’s not yet at a point where he’s skating with the team. So that’d be kind of the next step.”

The 36-year-old suffered a scary-looking collision against the Buffalo Sabres that knocked him out of action.

Dakota Joshua to rejoin Leafs any day now

The rugged Joshua has been out since last season with a core injury. He just completed a four-game conditioning stint with the AHL's Marlies and is expected to be recalled by the Leafs “in the next day or two," said Chayka.

As for Max Domi, his is the longest-term of the injuries, and he remains out indefinitely. He suffered complications from an offseason back surgery.
