Montreal Canadiens & Philadelphia Flyers Linked To Interesting Trade
The Montreal Canadiens are a team to watch on the trade market, as GM Kent Hughes knows his team is close to being a Stanley Cup contender, and with the need for another top-six forward, insert the Philadelphia Flyers.
The Flyers are struggling this season and are one of the league's worst teams. They have a bunch of underperforming players on their roster, and GM Daniel Briere has no choice but to make some drastic changes to his roster. While there's certainly a couple of untouchables, Porter Martone being one of them, veteran forward Owen Tippett was recently linked to a deal, and specifically with the Canadiens.
Daily Faceoff's Anthony Di Marco linked the Canadiens to Tippett, and had this to say:
Marco D'Amico on The Starr & D'Amico Show about the #Habs & Tippett: And if the Canadiens aren't able to go and get a Dylan Larkin, I mean, Michael Hage comes into this team in April. That's a player that'd be very interesting because that's a finisher right there. I don't think he's played with a center as talented as Nick Suzuki or what Michael Hage could become in his career, right? I think, at least in his NHL career. I don't think that this is a player that has maxed out. [...] If I had to target a player from the Philadelphia Flyers, it would be Tippett over Konecny.
Tippett, 27, is signed through the 2032 season at $6.2 million AAV, and owns a 10-team no-trade list. The Canadiens are not on his list, and he's open to the potential move, at least contractually. Tippett has appeared in nine games this season, chipping in with just one goal, and one assist. Tippett's been averaging 16:26 of ice-time per game, and bounced up and down the Flyers' lineup.
The Canadiens have a boatload of prospects that the Flyers would have interest in, so there's certainly some potential these two teams could be doing business together in the coming days.
