Report: Oilers Eyeing Recently Waived Bruins Forward

The Edmonton Oilers have a lot of injured forwards and a lot of defensemen.

According to Elliotte Friedman, one fix they're looking at is Boston's Michael Eyssimont.

Friedman brought it up on Monday's 32 Thoughts while walking through Edmonton's injuries up front. "I know they're looking at someone like an Eyssimont," Friedman said.

"Depending on the contract situation, we'd see how they felt."

Edmonton Would Rather Pay With A Defenseman

Friedman first reported Saturday that the Oilers had explored a "lateral trade," a defenseman for a forward.

On Monday, he repeated that Edmonton would prefer to move one of its depth defensemen. "I don't know if Boston would be interested in one of the depth defencemen on the Edmonton roster," Friedman said.

"But the Oilers would prefer to move one of their depth defencemen, Spencer Stastney maybe."

The cap helps explain it.

PuckPedia has Edmonton at $761,666 in cap space, currently. Eyssimont's cap hit is $1.45 million.

Zach Hyman is out about two weeks, and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Matt Savoie, Jason Dickinson, and Mattias Janmark are all on injured reserve.

Goalie Frederik Andersen and defenseman Alec Regula are also out.

Eyssimont Cleared Waivers On Monday

Boston placed Eyssimont on waivers Sunday for the purpose of assignment to Providence.

He then cleared Monday afternoon and was assigned to the AHL.

He'd been a healthy scratch for all three Bruins games, and the move came as Matthew Poitras was expected back from injured reserve.

Eyssimont is 30 and signed with Boston as a free agent in July 2025 on a two-year deal. He played 56 games for the Bruins last season, scoring eight goals and 10 assists for 18 points.

He has 269 career NHL games with Winnipeg, San Jose, Tampa Bay, Seattle, and Boston.
