Penguins & Maple Leafs Linked To Interesting Trade
Keep an eye on the Pittsburgh Penguins and Toronto Maple Leafs, as these two teams could be doing some business together on the trade market this season.
Penguins president Kyle Dubas is open to trading just about everyone on his team outside Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Kris Letang. Dubas is trying to make his roster younger, while still competitive, but he also has some pending free-agents, who are going to draw interest from contending teams. As of right now, the Penguins don't at all look like a Stanley Cup Playoff team, so it makes sense they'll be taking offers for right-handed veteran defenceman, Erik Karlsson.
Karlsson and the Maple Leafs have been linked for a few years now, and this could finally be the year we see the Swedish blueliner in blue and white. Karlsson's very close to William Nylander and Daniel Alfredsson, who is now running Toronto's power play. Karlsson has just this season left on his contract at $10.5 million AAV, and owns a full no-movement clause. A trade to Toronto is something he will 100% approve.
Daily Faceoff's Matt Larkin mentioned Karlsson as a potential trade target on Thursday's episode of Leafs Morning Take, and host Nick Alberga made a point that if Karlsson comes, Morgan Rielly better be going the other way.
The fact of the matter is, John Chayka is trying to reshape his blueline, while Dubas is trying to unload his veterans. These two teams align perfectly as trade partners, and are certainly two teams to monitor in the coming weeks.
Erik Karlsson to Toronto? 👀 Nick Alberga says the only way he'd entertain the idea of the Maple Leafs acquiring Karlsson is if Morgan Rielly goes the other way. Presented by @bet365ca #bet365 https://t.co/dVastOT3oh
