Report: Rangers Emerge As Surprise Quinn Hughes Destination
Speaking on the DFO Insider podcast, Pagnotta set up the idea. "We all assume playing with the brothers," he said. "What about playing near the brothers?"
Jeff Marek jumped in with the obvious follow-up, asking whether he meant the Rangers. Pagnotta didn't dispute it. "What about playing across the river from the brothers?" he said.

A Pairing That Would Change The Rangers' Entire Blue Line
Pairing Hughes with Adam Fox would give New York arguably the best defensive pairing in the league, and GM Chris Drury has shown a willingness to be aggressive when a true difference-maker becomes available.
Hughes, 26, is currently with the Minnesota Wild after being dealt there from Vancouver, and he put up 76 points in 74 games between the two stops last season.
He's two seasons removed from a 92-point year and remains one of the clear top options at his position whenever his name comes up in trade speculation.
Hughes himself has pushed back on the idea that family will simply decide his future for him.
He's acknowledged the appeal of playing with his brothers while making it clear that he isn't interested in sacrificing "a great spot" just to make that happen, leaving room for a team like the Rangers to make its own case.

Money matters here too.
Cale Makar's new deal set the bar at $20.5 million annually for an elite defenseman, and Hughes could reasonably push past that number on a shorter-term contract, something any acquiring team would need to be prepared to pay.
New Jersey remains the default assumption in the Hughes sweepstakes, and that hasn't changed.
But Pagnotta thinks if Hughes ever does move, the Rangers deserve a spot on the short list of teams capable of getting it done.
