The Boston Bruins are close to a multi-year extension agreement with versatile middle-six forward/center Marat Khusnutdinov. He was due to become a restricted free agent with arbitration rights next summer. He's wrapping up a two-year, $1.85 million deal ($925,000 cap hit).

The report comes to us from insider Kevin Weekes.

The 5'10', 190-pound Russian was a second-round pick of the Minnesota Wild in 2020, and came over to North America three years later at the age of 21. He spent a season and a half with the Wild before being dealt to the Bruins in a trade deadline deal in March of 2025.

Khusnutdinov had a breakout year with Boston last season, recording 15 goals and 33 points to go with a plus/minus rating of +12, while averaging 14:30 of ice time per night. He's off to a fine start again this season with five points in nine games, and already has a +7 rating. He provided the game-winning goal in the Bruins' 4-1 win over the LA Kings on Saturday.

He plays both center and wing as well as serving on the penalty kill for Boston. He brings speed and a high motor, as well as playmaking & a high hockey IQ.

Khusnutdinov has played as high as the second line this season for head coach Marco Sturm.

No details yet on his extension have been confirmed, but this would be a smart move by Boston to lock him up now.
