Report: Kings & Jets Discussing Connor Hellebuyck Trade

Just last week, they were called an "out of left field" team entering the Connor Hellebuyck conversation. But now, a report from Frank Seravalli of Sportsnet tells us that the LA Kings are seriously looking into a trade with the Winnipeg Jets for the three-time Vezina winner.

"Count the Los Angeles Kings among teams who have recently kicked the tires on Connor Hellebuyck," writes Seravalli on Sportsnet.ca.

"While the depth of these trade talks is difficult to qualify, the belief is Kings GM Ken Holland at the very least has ascertained an understanding on the price required to pry the three-time Vezina Trophy winner out of the prairies. And yes, the Kings have received affirmation that Hellebuyck apparently would accept a trade to LA."

Hellebuyck has lost well over $600,000 as of Thursday afternoon as he continues to sit out, waiting for a trade that he requested from the Jets. He loses almost $39,000 every day that he fails to honor his contract, which pays him a base salary of $7.5 million this season (and has an $8.5M cap hit).

As for the Kings, they are off to a rough start this season, winless through five games (0-3-2) and starting goalie Darcy Kuemper has an ugly .847 save percentage. Backup Anton Forsberg hasn't been any better. Adding Hellebuyck could certainly help turn around their fortunes.

"What the Kings are now internally debating is direction: If 0-3-2 quickly becomes 1-8-2 and sinks their season, it will be difficult for Los Angeles to include a 2027 or 2028 first-round pick as part of the package – even with proper lottery protection," writes Seravalli.

This potential move to the West Coast for Hellebuyck will be a situation we follow closely.
