NHL Trade Rumors: Ryan O'Reilly to be traded by Nashville Predators
Elliotte Friedman: Ryan O’Reilly is a pending UFA, Nashville appears ready to accept a retool, and other teams have been lusting after him for years. Don’t believe there’s been much conversation about an extension, either - Sportsnet (10/30)
O'Reilly is in the final season of his current deal, carrying a very reasonable $4.5 million cap hit. 'The Factor' doesn't own any trade protection on his contract, but it's expected that MacFarland would work with O'Reilly to find him a situation that makes sense for everyone involved.
O'Reilly prefers to sign a contract extension to stay in Nashville, and him and his family love the area, but MacFarland has to take the emotions of out it, and do what's best for his organization.
As far as trade destinations go, the Montreal Canadiens are going to go hard after O'Reilly, as they want some more center depth, even with top prospect Michael Hage coming once the NCAA season is over next spring.
The Carolina Hurricanes will have interest, and so too will the Edmonton Oilers, and Minnesota Wild. For now, O'Reilly stays, but expect to see him traded at some point this season.
