Report: Larkin May Expand Trade list Again
I think over the next 24-48 hours it's possible we see that trade list altered. Some teams like Florida and Vegas, even Colorado, it's very hard to see anything like that happening, if not impossible. So I do think it's possible Larkin may take some teams off, or possibly even add some teams on.
Although no Canadian teams have appeared on his list so far, this new development would have Montreal Canadiens fans perking up again. They are the team that everyone around the sport feels could be the one that has the assets to satisfy the Detroit Red Wings in a deal. And their fans made it clear to Larkin when the Wings visited the Bell Centre a few weeks ago how badly they'd like to see him in Les Habitant colours. Many feel that Montreal is a second-line center away from being a nearly complete team for a serious Stanley Cup run.
It's unclear, of course, how the other big rumor out there today may affect that thinking: We also heard that the Canadiens would be among the destinations that Kucherov would be amenable to.
Larkin has slowly but surely been expanding his trade list to try to increase the odds of a deal getting done sooner rather than later. Originally, it was only the Minnesota Wild, Florida Panthers, and Vegas Golden Knights. Another seven U.S. destinations have since been added, including Colorado, Carolina, Tampa, New Jersey, Utah, Dallas and Washington.
But this past week, his frustration boiled over as he pulled himself from the Detroit lineup, refusing to play any further for the team until a trade is finally executed. The Red Wings, in turn, suspended him, and the Larkin Losses continue to pile up as he is no longer receiving his paychecks on his $8.7 million annual salary. As of Sunday, it's in and around $150,000 and counting.
