NHL teams trailing by four goals in the final three minutes of the 3rd period were 0-9,652-0 entering Tuesday night. The Winnipeg Jets changed all that. And ended a franchise-record nine-game losing streak at the same time.

The Jets scored four times in the final 2:40 of regulation to come back from a 4-0 deficit to the Montreal Canadiens, then got the winner in overtime to complete the most insane comeback in NHL history.

This was the 9,653rd time that a team took a four-goal lead into the final three minutes of an NHL games. Needless to say, no other team in history had ever blown such a lead in the final 2 minutes and 40 seconds of a game.

Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis said they "got what we deserved."

"We were winning, but we weren't beating them. We got what we deserved. If you look at the game globally, forget the score. Winnipeg was the better team tonight. It's how you let it slip away like that, and it's hard to explain."

To St. Louis' point, the Jets outshot the Habs 47-22 on the night. Jacob Fowler still made 42 saves, but it wasn't enough.

For the Jets, ending their losing streak in such a fashion was sweet. And for rookie Tyrel Bauer, even more so. He had his first career goal, and assist.

“Listen, that’s a long stretch. That’s a long, hard stretch, but this group believed in each other. We’re proud of that. We had each other’s backs in that room,” said Bauer.

The rookie also went toe-to-toe with Habs' tough guy Arber Xhekaj, which would help inspire his team to its comeback. Give him the Gordie Howe hat trick.

“Every time he steps on the ice and he does something like that, it fires us up,” Kyle Connor said. “He's the ultimate teammate. He's such a great guy. He'll put his body on the line for his teammates, plays hard, and I just think it kind of settles everybody into the game.”

The Jets will remember this game for a long time. The Canadiens will want to forget it quickly.
