Nicklas Lidstrom Hockey Rumours

Rumors continue to surround the Detroit Red Wings and Nicklas Lidstrom.

Lidstrom is one of the NHL's oldest defensemen at age 40. Last year, his production dropped. For this reason I do not think the Red Wings can afford to sign him again for $7.35 million. Management will offer him less, probably around $5 million. Lidstrom will take the pay-cut if it means finishing off his great NHL career in Detroit. Lidstrom told general manager Ken Holland he will decide well before July 1, the start of free agency. I would not pick him in my hockey pool next year, but he is still a decent defenseman even if he can't put up the big numbers anymore.
