The latest trade rumors surround the Colorado Avalanche for the 2011-2012 NHL offseason. The Avalanche recently traded John-Michael Liles to the Toronto Maple Leafs for a 2012 2nd round draft pick. Liles had some inconsistency issues in Colorado and gets his wish for a fresh start with the Leafs. The Leafs in return give up a late 2nd round pick they acquired from the Boston Bruins.

The Avalanche need to bring in eight players spending $20 million to reach the cap floor. When July 1st rolls around, the Avalanche are in a position to be free agent buyers. They need a goaltender and a defenceman. Sources say the Avalanche are going to give Tomas Vokoun an offer of $5-6 million per year when he becomes a free agent. The Avalanche are also going to target a defenceman like James Wisniewski from the Montreal Canadiens or Joni Pitkanen from the Carolina Hurricanes.

Look for the Colorado Avalanche to pick up a top goalie and defenceman from 2011 NHL Free Agency.
