The New York Islanders are shopping defenseman Andrew MacDonald and hoping to deal him before the 2014 NHL trade deadline. MacDonald leads the league in blocked shots and is logging key minutes on the number one power play unit since Lubomir Visnovsky was injured. The 27 year old has 24 points in 60 games played this season.

He is a pending unrestricted free agent that is coming off a contract with an annual cap hit of $550 thousand. After getting paid the league minimum for years, he is seeking a massive raise. He is demanding $5 million per season with a 5 year term. GM Garth Snow offered him a 4 year contract for $16 million total. MacDonald's agent turned it down.

The Detroit Red Wings are in trade talks with the Islanders, offering a first round draft pick for Andrew MacDonald. The Bostons Bruins, Anaheim Ducks and Colorado Avalanche are also interested.
