The Jason Spezza trade rumors are heating up as word comes that he demanded a trade. Why would the captain of the Ottawa Senators want out? According to sources, the reason he wants out is because he is blamed too often when his club does not win. GM Bryan Murray confirmed the rumors when he recently said, "I think that Jason feels maybe there's a change that he would like to have happen, and if that's the case we'll try to do what we can."

Spezza replaced Daniel Alfredsson as Ottawa's captain when Alfredsson similarly wanted out. The 30 year old centre has one season left on his $7 million annual cap hit contract. He scored 66 points in 75 games last regular season. His modified no-trade clause allows him to submit a list of 10 teams he would not accept a trade to.

It is unlikely Spezza will be traded to a rival in the Eastern Conference. The likely trade destinations are the Vancouver Canucks, St Louis Blues and Anaheim Ducks. The Sens want a good roster player in return. Look for the Vancouver Canucks to make a deal with the Ottawa Senators before the 2014 NHL Draft, Ryan Kesler for Jason Spezza.
