The Pittsburgh Penguins hired their new General Manager, Jim Rutherford, who was previously with the Carolina Hurricanes. It is perplexing that the Penguins selected a 65 year old who accomplished little as GM of the Hurricanes. Rutherford made his first bold move immediately when he fired head coach, Dan Bylsma.

Rutherford said: "Dan is a good man and a good coach, but I thought we needed a change in direction moving forward." There are several teams looking for a good coach with a record of 252-117-32 in 401 regular season games with the Penguins, and it is unlikely Bylsma is unemployed for long.

In addition to the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Vancouver Canucks, Florida Panthers and Carolina Hurricanes currently have coaching vacancies.
