Jordan Staal Return to Pittsburgh Penguins

The Penguins are interested in a trade for Jordan Staal. The Pittsburgh Penguins are rumored to have talked to the Carolina Hurricanes about a deal before the trade deadline. The Penguins have less than a million dollars in cap space, and a deal would involve a return of salary.

Staal signed a ten year, $60 million deal in 2012 with a full no trade clause. The Pens traded Staal to the Hurricanes for Brandon Sutter, Brian Dumoulin and the eighth overall pick on 2012. Pens GM Jim Rutherford said earlier this week that he would like to acquire a forward.

A source close to Staal said that he would waive his no trade to return to the Penguins. Jordan signed the big deal to play with his brother Eric, who will be a UFA at the end of next season, and might be on his way out of Carolina as well.
