A former NHL player is among four Russian immigrants arrested in Florida this week after being charged with defrauding Medicaid.

Sergei Berezin, 43, and his wife Lyudmila Ustakova were arrested Tuesday morning and are being held in a Palm Beach County jail. The couple is facing two charges of defrauding Medicaid of an amount between $10,000 and $50,000. The pair are accused of paying a company to acquire Medicaid and food stamp benefits, which they were unqualified and ineligible for.

During an undercover investigation, Berezin told a confidential informant that he was making $100,000 from rental properties and training hockey players. Berezin was drafted by Toronto in 1994 and appeared in 502 career NHL games with the Leafs, Arizona Coyotes, Montreal Canadiens, Chicago Blackhawks and Washington Capitals, netting 160 goals and 286 points.
