Washington Capitals superstar forward, Alex Ovechkin, is committed to represent Russia at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, regardless if a deal is reached to send NHLers.

According to Russian News Agency TASS, Ovechkin said:

The same situation was with the [2014] Sochi Games, they said NHL could not be allowed to come. I hope the sides will reach an agreement. Anyway, I and other players will definitely come [to the Olympics in 2018].

He made the same commitment prior to the 2014 Olympics, when a deal wasn't reached to send NHLers until less than a year before the games. The Russian hockey team has performed poorly in the Olympics and it should come as no surprise that Ovechkin is eager for another shot at an Olympic gold medal.
