2017-2018 Stanley Cup Futures Odds
Over a third of the 2017-2018 NHL season is complete, and the Tampa Bay Lightning are the favorites to win the Stanley Cup. Bolts superstars Nikita Kucherov and Steven Stamkos sit at #1 and #2 respectively in the NHL scoring race.
Online sportsbook Williamhill lists the Bolts at +600 futures odds to win the Stanley Cup. The St Louis Blues and Toronto Maple Leafs are both listed at +1000. The defending Stanley Cup Champions, the Pittsburgh Penguins, and the Columbus Blue Jackets are listed at +1200.
The biggest risers are the Winnipeg Jets (+1600), New Jersey Devils (+2000) and Vegas Golden Knights (+3300). The Jets sit at the top of their division, and are playing well. Similar to the Lightning, the Jets have a well-rounded team with few weaknesses. The New Jersey Devils were at the bottom of the standings last season, but the Devils are rejuvenated and finding success so far this season. The Golden Knights are surprising hockey fans everywhere as they continue to win games, and hold down a playoff spot in their first season as an expansion team.
The biggest fallers are the Washington Capitals (+1800), Chicago Blackhawks (+2200), Anaheim Ducks (+2800), and Edmonton Oilers (+3300). The Capitals were expected to contend for the Presidents' Trophy for the third consecutive year. The Trophy is awarded to the NHL team with the best regular season record, and the Capitals have won the Trophy the past two seasons, but are not on pace to win it this season. The Chicago Blackhawks have won 3 Stanley Cups in the past decade, and therefore, are considered a top team in the NHL, but they've struggled to find consistency this season. The Anaheim Ducks made it to the Western Conference Final last season, but this season, they have not looked like a top team. The Oilers were expected to be near the top of the standings with superstars, Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, but the Oilers sit near the bottom, and are not currently situated in a playoff spot.
