NHL Trade Rumors: 2 Top Contenders Linked To Flames' Rasmus Andersson
Trade speculation surrounding Calgary Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson is heating up fast, and according to The Calgary Sun’s Wes Gilbertson, the Dallas Stars and Carolina Hurricanes are among the most serious contenders.
With contract extension talks reportedly stalling and Andersson “ready for something new,” GM Craig Conroy is now listening to offers, but only if the return meets Calgary’s high asking price. Andersson, 28, is entering the final year of a team-friendly deal and carries a $4.55M cap hit, making him one of the top trade chips on the market.

Carolina Has Roster Room
The Hurricanes’ interest in Andersson stems from a changing blue line. Dmitry Orlov is headed to free agency, and 40-year-old Brent Burns may be headed toward a reduced role or retirement. While Carolina is high on rookie Scott Morrow, they may prefer to insulate their defense with a proven top-four right shot like Andersson.
According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, Carolina may even consider acquiring him without a guaranteed extension, given their current championship window and Andersson’s affordable cap hit.
There are rumours that Rasmus Andersson will be traded during this off-season. Andersson is a TOP4 offensive defenseman with flaws in defense. It would be a smart move for the Flames to trade him. pic.twitter.com/Dx1Wc8aSVX

Dallas Must Navigate Cap Hurdles to Make It Work
The Stars are also firmly in the mix, though their cap space is tight. They could benefit from Andersson’s physical style and 24-minute nightly workload, especially after their blue line was exposed in the playoffs.
However, for a deal to happen, Dallas may need Calgary to retain salary or send back a contract. With GM Craig Conroy reportedly allowing interested teams to discuss an extension with Andersson, Dallas might be trying to work out a creative structure to make it fit.
