NHL Rumors: 3 Blockbuster Trade Packages To Land Jason Robertson

Dallas Stars forward Jason Robertson celebrates after scoring goal in 2024 game.

Jason Robertson is the kind of player you don’t trade unless you absolutely have to, but the Dallas Stars might soon find themselves in that position.

Despite a strong run of playoff appearances, Dallas faces a salary cap crunch and the looming need to re-sign Robertson, who’s entering the final year of his contract. Adam Gretz of Bleacher Report explored what it might take for a rival team to actually pry him loose, and these three proposals are among the most intriguing.

Kings Offer a Star Defenseman to Solve Mutual Needs

If the Stars want a young, right-handed defenseman who can make an immediate impact, the Los Angeles Kings might be the perfect partner. Gretz suggests a package built around Brandt Clarke, a 2025 first-round pick, and former top prospect Alex Turcotte. For Dallas, Clarke could slot into a top-pairing role for years to come, addressing a key need on their blue line. On the flip side, the Kings, who’ve repeatedly been bounced by the Edmonton Oilers in the first round, would finally gain a lethal finisher to complement their strong possession game.

Rangers Dangle Schneider and Picks in Youth-Fueled Bid

The New York Rangers are in desperate need of a scoring spark and could offer the Stars a mix of youth and potential. Gretz’s hypothetical package includes defenseman Braden Schneider, forward Brennan Othmann, and a first-round pick (depending on conditions with Pittsburgh). Schneider would fill a need on Dallas’ back end, while Othmann adds offensive upside and grit. The Rangers have aging core pieces, and landing Robertson would immediately rejuvenate their top six.

Red Wings Go Big With Top Prospect and Pick

Detroit hasn’t seen playoff action in nearly a decade, and GM Steve Yzerman might finally be ready to cash in his chips. Gretz proposes a deal sending top defense prospect Axel Sandin Pellikka, winger Jonatan Berggren, and a first-round pick to Dallas. Sandin Pellikka is one of the most promising young blueliners in the league and fits Dallas' defensive needs perfectly. Pairing Robertson with Dylan Larkin, Lucas Raymond, and Alex DeBrincat could finally make the Wings dangerous again.
