BREAKING: Oilers acquire veteran goaltender from Montreal

Coming off of a 2-1 shootout win over Tampa Bay, the Canadiens announced a trade with Edmonton.

The Oilers have acquired Al Montoya from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for a conditional 4th round pick.  The condition being if Montoya plays in 7 games. If not, it turns into a 5th rounder.

Montoya has been battling a concussion suffered 2 months ago on November 4th, and has only payed in 4 games this season. His numbers this season (3.77 GAA and 0.863 sv%) may seem rather poor, but those stats were during the first month of the Canadiens season, when the team was at its worst.

This trade gives the Oilers some much needed goaltending depth, and can help take some of the load off of Cam Talbot once Montoya recovers from injury.

The Canadiens seem to have a lot of faith in waiver claim Antti Niemi, as it seems he will now back up Carey Price, at least for the remainder of the season.
