Must-See: Dougie Hamilton Trolls Boston Announcer

Carolina Hurricanes defenceman Dougie Hamilton broke out his Hartford Whales gear in practice today, dawning a new number.
Hamilton, number 19, was criticized by Boston Bruins announcer Jack Edwards during the December 23rd, 2018 matchup between the Hurricanes and Bruins for wearing his Whalers themed jersey, but keeping his number 19. Former Hartford Whaler John McKenzie originally wore number 19 before having the number retired before the relocation to Raleigh. Edwards went on to call Hamilton "A much lesser player" and even on and said, "There is a disconnect between the Hurricanes marketing department and hockey history."

Dougie Hamilton had no immediate response to the criticism, but then on March 3rd, 2019, the day before the second Whalers themed game between the Hurricanes and Bruins, Hamilton skated at the Hurricanes practice with a slight adjustment to his usual 19, transforming the one into a six with stick tape. Several media outlets responded to his new number.

Originally thought of as a cancer in the locker room in Calgary, Hamilton seems to have found his place in Carolina. Hamilton has scored 12 goals and 16 assists for the Hurricanes since being traded to Carolina on day two of the NHL Draft in 2018.
