Hurricanes defenceman Trevor van Riemsdyk out 4-6 months

The Carolina Hurricanes fresh off their sweep of the Islanders announced defenceman Trevor van Riemsdyk is going to be out for awhile after undergoing surgery on his left shoulder. The mobile d-man is expected the miss 4-6 months.

TVR initially sustained the injury during game 2 of the second round, and it wasn't clear at the time just how serious the injury was. It appears it was very serious. The 27-year-old played in 73 games during the regular season and 9 more in the playoffs where he tallied 3 assists.

Good thing for the Bunch of Jerks is they are loaded on the back end, so fortunately the injury occurred to an area of strength. Next time you hear a GM mention you can never have enough defencemen for the playoffs, this is a prime example why.
