Rumor: RFA Brayden Point closing in on new contract

According to sources, RFA Brayden Point and the Tampa Bay Lightning are closing in on a new contract for the 23-year-old Centre.

Point, like many of the RFA's this summer, has been patient during negotiations and it's believed he will be the first domino to fall which will open the flood gates of signings. The 'two-way' centre finished last season with 92 points in 79 games and plays a style his head coach, Jon Copper, feels will one day win him a Selke Trophy.

The deal is rumored to be for 8 years, starting at just over $8 million and progressively increasing from there. Tampa Bay locked up their star goaltender this offseason and with the likes of Stamkos and Kucherov under contract for the foreseeable future, sticking around makes a ton of sense for Brayden Point and his camp.

Tampa is expected to be a powerhouse this season, and having Brayden Point in the fold, certainly increases their chances of winning a Stanley Cup.
