Penguins and Ducks complete trade involving Erik Gudbranson

The Penguins and Ducks have pulled off a decent trade as the Pens sent defenseman Erik Gudbranson to the Ducks for left winger Andreas Martisen and a 2021 seventh round pick.

As we reported days go, the two teams were in discussion on a deal centred around a right-handed defenseman, and Gudbranson fit the bill. The 27-year-old joined the Pens in February in a deal that saw the Pens ship Tanner Pearson out of town. The Ottawa, Ontario native will provide the Ducks with some more toughness on the right side of their D to go along with Josh Manson.

The Pens get a 29-year-old in Martinsen who is a bit of a suitcase. He split last season with the Blackhawks and the AHL affiliate in Rockford. Martinsen has also spent time in Montreal, in the Colorado organization and even played one game in San Diego this season.

Minor deal which could open the floodgates to more for the Pens after they shed roughly $3 million dollars with the deal. Jim Rutherford is still looking to move Jack Johnson to find his team some secondary scoring. Keep an eye on the Penguins, they are far from done.
