Rumor: Senators and Maple Leafs are closing in on a trade

The Ottawa Senators are battling a vicious injury bug as their forwards are dropping like flies. Earlier this week, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported the Sens are making calls for forwards and it appears the one team who picked up is the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Senators and Leafs have made a slew of deals over the past few years, which is quite the surprise considering the divisional rivalry between the two clubs. The Sens currently have Nikita Zaitsev, Connor Brown, Ron Hainsey and Tyler Ennis in their lineup, and DJ Smith coaching the team, all who were apart of the Leafs last season.

According to sources connected to the Leafs, the Sens are willing to trade for forward Nic Petan and the two teams are talking about a deal. The Leafs could be looking for a young defencemen in return who will be a year or two away from getting a look in the show.

Pierre Dorion and Kyle Dubas have quite the history and it appears the two are ready to tango once again.

Are you surprised the Sens keep taking the scraps of the Maple Leafs?
