NHLTR: Chicago and Detroit getting close to a significant trade

The Chicago Blackhawks were just dealt some tough news as Brent Seabrook and Calvin de Haan are both out for the season. In turn, that's freed up some cap space and the Hawks are ready to spend the money, to try and save their season.

According to sources connected to the Detroit Red Wings, the Blackhawks have reached out to start negotiations on a deal centered around defenseman Mike Green. Chicago is in need of a RHD, and Green would help provide a boost to their offense in the windy city.

There is also believe the deal could turn into more, as Andreas Athanasiou has been on the Blackhawks radar all season, and the Wings have been rumored to be open to moving the soon to be RFA. The Wings have interest in Alex Nylander coming back the other way.

Interesting times as the Hawks have almost $17 million on the IR right now. The trade chatter is picking up around the windy city, let's see what type of new recruits get blown in.
