NHLTR: Penguins and Devils talking trade

The Pittsburgh Penguins continue to fight off the injury bug and GM, Jim Rutherford has been working the phones harder than any other executive in the league.

There's beginning to be a lot of chatter circulating the Pens' and their forward Alex Galchenyuk and the New Jersey Devils have interest in the struggling forward. The Devils and Pens have discussed a deal surrounding Galchenyuk and the Devils, Miles Wood.

Wood is 24, and has 7 points in 29 games this season and is making just under $3 million for the next 2 seasons, meanwhile, Galchenyuk is a UFA after this season and New Jersey could be the perfect place for the Russian forward to get some more ice time and try and produce into his next contract.

Galchenyuk has 10 points in 21 games and as Rutherford put it the other day "isn't in our top 12 when everyone gets healthy". The Pens love Wood's speed and willingness to muck it out, with a playoff type of game.

There's potential for this deal to turn into something much bigger if the Pens are willing to dangle their draft picks, as Taylor Hall is in play.

At this time, Rutherford has no interest trading top end draft picks for a potential rental.
