NHLTR: Red Wings shopping Mike Green; 3 possible destinations

The Detroit Red Wings find themselves at the bottom of the NHL's standings as the Steve Yzerman led team is dead smack in the middle of a complete rebuild.

Yzerman has been busy since he took over the helm trying to turn older players into assets, and he's landed a few young players who were struggling, in hopes of finding lightning in a bottle with the Red and White, ie. Robby Fabbri.

Insert, Mike Green, the veteran defenceman who is a pending UFA, and currently has roughly $3.6 million left on his cap hit this season. The Wings have been making calls trying to find Green a new home, and turn the RHD into an asset moving forward for the club. Green is having an off year with the Wings, as the normally offensively gifted d-man only has 1 goal in 22 games this season.

Three teams the Wings have been in contact with include:
1. Washington Capitals
2. New York Islanders
3. Winnipeg Jets

The Wings are looking for a mid-round draft pick and mid-level defensive prospect in return, but currently Mike Green holds all the cards with his no-move clause. However, once February rolls around, Green's trade clause dips down to 'modified' and he must submit a list of 10 teams.

You can bet your bottom dollar, Green is only going if the team is a contender.
