Rumor: Detroit and Colorado working on a loaded trade

The Colorado Avalanche are in a position of power. The team is holding their own in the Western Conference with a collection of team-friendly contracts. The Avs are ready to use their cap space, and are looking to the east coast for some help.

The Avs have held discussions with the Detroit Red Wings regarding a number of players, including forwards Andreas Athanasiou, Luke Glendenning, and defenceman, Mike Green. With their current $6.7 million in cap space for this season, the team is open to adding multiple parts which is how the talks have materialized into something bigger than just the initial ask of Athanasiou.

Some are skeptical of the Avs circling the Red Wings however, as some insiders feel the team should be looking for players with a wealth of playoff experience, which Athanasiou doesn't have. However, his speed and skill game would fit in seamlessly into mile high.

The Avalanche are open to moving draft picks and prospects, including the likes of Connor Timmins and Shane Bowers. Steve Yzerman continues to build for the future in Detroit, while the Avs are building for the spring. It takes two to tango, and keep your eye on these two teams as we approach the deadline.
