If the Kings traded Drew Doughty, 3 possible trades to consider

While the hockey world sits on pins and needles, waiting for the news on this season's fate, I have been busy this past week throwing together some 'fantasy trade scenarios' to keep us all chatting trades. To be completely honest, it's been tough to focus on anything to do with hockey, but it's important to still have some fun and I certainly hope you enjoy today's trade bait - Drew Doughty.

What if the LA Kings traded Drew Doughty?

While GM, Rob Blake has mentioned he would prefer to build around Quick, Kopitar and Doughty, we are going to look at a few potential destinations for the 30-year-old defenseman, who has 7 years remaining and an AAV of $11 million. Not the easiest asset to trade, so take it easy on me in the comments - I have feelings too, you know.

To the Toronto Maple Leafs for Mitch Marner. One for one deal. Toronto may be one of the only places Doughty accepts a deal too. The Leafs would be taking a huge risk as Kyle Dubas wouldn't have a ton of interest paying a 36-year-old Doughty, $11 million. But if the Leafs are able to land a premiere RHD, would Marner be worth shipping out of town? Kings fans would fall in love from the moment Marner touched the puck. It feels like Doughty will be forever linked to the Leafs.

To the Carolina Hurricanes for Brett Pesce, Vincent Trocheck and prospect Ryan Suzuki. The Kings would receive a nice package for Doughty. It provides them with someone who can eat his minutes, a #2 center for Kopitar's protection and a prospect to sell hope for the future. Meanwhile, the 'Canes receive a Norris trophy winner and with Dougie Hamilton, may provide the team with the best 1-2 RHD duo in the league. The Hurricanes owner loves making bold moves and Doughty could probably handle the sunshine in Carolina.

To the New York Rangers for Henrik Lundqvist, Adam Fox, and Ryan Strome. The Kings would immediately buy-out 'Hank' in this deal, as he was thrown in to make the money work. Fox is a stud and was a serious contender for rookie of the year, while Strome is finally coming into his own on Broadway. The Rangers receive Doughty, and New York would immediately fall in love with 'Dewy' in the big apple.

Drew Doughty has a no-move-clause and a love for west coast living. Convincing him to leave will be a tall task for any general manager, however, if the Kings come out in the 2020-2021 season struggling, look for Rob Blake to approach Doughty about being moved out before it get's really ugly in LA.

For now, who really cares, let's all be safe with our families and stop the spreading of this virus.

Until, next time. Be well.
