When the NHL resumes it's likely without fans

The Covid-19 pandemic continues to push the 'restart' date back for league play on the 2019-2020 NHL season. Given the circumstances and timelines to consider, the situation couldn't be more fluid for the NHL and its Board of Governors. If the league wants to get back on the ice, it's extremely likely to be without anyone in attendance.

The safety of the people involved and everyone else, for that matter, is the one and only priority. Once the Covid virus starts to slow down for a lengthy period of time, that's when you'll see the conversation shift from 'if' to 'when'. When exactly that is, is anyone's guess. The restrictions on social activity will eventually lessen, for now the league plays the waiting game like everyone else.
I agree with Joe, it does. And I have no problem with that as long as it's safe to do so. The league's calendar will now be impacted for this year and for next. Having the 2020-2021 regular season finish as close to April 2021 as possible, would be a win for the NHL. This way there's no impact on the start of 2022.

For now, the NHL continues to discuss neutral sites, health records, and pandemic timelines. If hockey resumes anytime soon, it will be from our televisions. Ain't nothin' wrong with that, get your popcorn ready.
