A Play-in team will draft 1st overall in 2020

It has been 106 days since the NHL has conducted an official event. On Friday night
the NHL held their 2020 draft lottery and the league came back with a HUGE surprise with an underdog team, outside the bottom 10 in the NHL winning the draft lottery.

The win by the play-in team was the biggest jump to the top pick in the history of the NHL draft lottery, having jumped from 12-1. That pick was originally held by the New York Rangers. There will now be a second lottery to be held after the play-in round is completed, with all the losing 5 game play-in teams having an equal 1/8 chance at the top pick. This means that there is a realistic chance that projected top pick Alexis Lafreniere may end up in Edmonton or Pittsburgh playing alongside Connor McDavid or Sidney Crosby, if one of those teams lose their play-in series. That is a hell of a consolation prize for losing the 5 game play-in.

The 2020 draft is considered by many NHL scouts as the deepest in years and now the top player will be going to a bubble team. The draft order will be:

Play-in team #1
LA #2
Ottawa #3 (from SJ Erik Karlsson trade)
Detroit #4
Ottawa #5

The play-in round is supposed to start on July 30th, but the NHL has not yet announced the "HUB" cities yet. Vegas is considered a lock with Toronto and Edmonton being considered for the other location. The LONG wait is almost over and the drama has just begun, I can't wait for the NHL to return.
