Rumor: Montreal to make massive offer for #1 overall draft pick

It's been speculated for months from the La Presse in Montreal and tonight's the night we will get a better sense if it will come true. The Montreal Canadiens are expected to make a massive offer to the team who wins the lottery at tonight's NHL draft lottery. As the Habs are in the playoffs, nothing could be finalized until after the playoffs are completed.

While the Canadiens hold a very small chance of winning the lottery, it's been rumored they are willing to send a mega-offer to obtain the #1 overall pick, to then of course, select Alexis Lafreniere. If you aren't familiar with his game, watch the video at the bottom of the post, and then pick up your jaw off the floor after.

Marc Bergevin would love to get his hands on the next generational talent to come out of Quebec, and the Canadiens fan base would go absolute bonkers if they are able to pull off this deal.

Montreal has a wealth of young talent and if they are serious about a deal would have to include the likes of Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, Cayden Primeau, and at least one first-round-pick. A king's ransom to say the least, but that's the price you pay when you want the first overall pick. If Montreal includes a roster player instead of one of their top prospects mentioned, the likely choice would be Max Domi.

Could we see an Eric Lindros type of draft day move where 6 players and 2 1st-round-picks go the other way including Ron Hextall, Chris Simon and Peter Forsberg!?

We sure hope so, and Habs fans should too...
