Some NHL Players May Sit Out Of Playoffs

Winning the Stanley Cup isn't easy. Winning the Stanley Cup requires sacrifice. However, the idea of sacrifice has completely changed in light of Covid-19. Players will be risking their health and the health of their families in pursuit of the Stanley Cup. For many players, it is not worth the sacrifice.

There is typically an overwhelming majority in NHLPA player votes. However, it is reported that a vote to resume play would be rather contentious, but would expect to pass by a narrow margin. If the consensus is to resume play, there are reportedly a number of players who would decline to participate.
"But at the end of the day, if it's the way they feel, then I think we have to honor their request." - Bruce Cassidy
If there is an opportunity to win the Stanley Cup and an individual player declines to participate, one may expect their fan base to permanently turn against them.
