More trades coming for the Pittsburgh Penguins

The Pittsburgh Penguins pulled off a trade earlier this week that didn't go as smooth as planned. Insurance issues, amongst other things held up the eventful deal of Patrick Hornqvist to the Panthers for Michael Matheson and Colton Sceviour. More deals to come as GM, Jim Rutherford hasn't put down the phone.

The Pens GM has been arguably the busiest executive as once again he tries to change the look of his team. Sceviour provides some depth on their right side and Matheson slots in as their 2nd highest paid defenseman. He also happens to be the only Penguin signed for the 2025-26 season.

Rutherford dealt Hornqvist after the rugged winger agreed to play in Florida. Getting a hold of him apparently wasn't easy and neither was the paperwork afterwards for the injury insurance. The two-day delay after leaking is a rare move and so is Kevin Weekes breaking trades before anyone else...

Next move - figure out the goaltending situation.

The Penguins will still be active in the trade market as they have to shore up their goaltender duo. With such a strong free agent pool of tendies, expect a trade closer to October 9th. Sounds more and more like Matt Murray will be the one carrying his goalie bag out and told to leave. He's been linked to Calgary, Toronto, Colorado, Carolina and Edmonton.

Two cups later, Matt Murray is likely on his way out of Pittsburgh. Michael Matheson and Colton Sceviour, on the other hand, have begun shopping for real estate.
