Washington discussing multiple trades to 'move money'

The Washington Capitals find themselves in a time of transition. A new bench boss, a new goaltender, but if the team has their way, there won't be a new defensive core. The Capitals are likely going to say goodbye to their long-time goaltender in Braden Holtby and it appears part of the savings is going to keeping some others in Washington.

According to Elliotte Friedman's 31 thoughts, the Capitals are trying to move some money out to extend Brenden Dillon. The rugged defenseman has been everything as advertised since coming over in a deal with the San Jose Sharks. Dillon's contract which paid him $3.27 million has expired and the Capitals are hoping to land on a new number around $4.5 million per. It's hard to find hard-nosed players these days and Dillon's one of the most physical.

Players to consider as far being dealt from the Capitals would be Richard Panik or Carl Hagelin. The Caps do however have just under $9 million in cap space, so Freidman's report in the first place was a touch surprising.

Holtby's on his way out, Dillon is set to hit the open market, and the Capitals have a new coach to chime in on the decision making. Lots going on in Washington and that's not even mentioning a extension is needed for....

Lots going on...
