Rumor: Columbus and Philadelphia Discussing Big Trade

The trade season has officially began after the NHL announced the timelines of their return to play. The trade chatter has picked up a tremendous amount according to general managers, agents and reporters from around the league. This newfound sense of urgency has made it's way to Columbus as they look for ways to boost their offense.

If David Savard is dealt to Philadelphia, look for the Blue Jackets to acquire James van Riemsdyk. The American born left-winger is very familiar with Blue Jackets head coach, John Tortorella, and his 40 points last season would be something that could help the Jackets.

'JVR' also happens to be deadly in front of the net on the power-play and could easily get back to scoring 36 goals a season like he was doing in Toronto, previous to becoming a Flyer.

Savard on the other hand, would give the Flyers some stability for their right-side of defense for next season and some cap flexibility. Savard has one year left on his deal at $4.25 million. While Savard didn't score last season but in 2019, where he had his best year he collected 24 points and was a plus 19.

This deal makes sense for both clubs and neither player has trade protection. Keep an eye on these two teams as we inch closer to puck drop in the 2020-21 NHL season!
