Toronto Maple Leafs & St. Louis Blues Talking Significant Trade

The Toronto Maple Leafs are in an awkward spot. The injuries to Auston Matthews, Joe Thornton, and Nick Robertson have left question marks on their ability to maintain depth on their middle 6 lines. As Jonas Siegel of The Athletic reports, perhaps a trade may be in the works.

The Maple Leafs have a significant amount of depth on their back end, leaving one to imagine Travis Dermott will be the odd man out. There have been reports of the Maple Leafs and Penguins engaging in trade talks, but a new report from Travis Straub of MSB West indicates that they may be in business with the St. Louis Blues.

Despite being 3rd in the West Division, the Blues are sitting ugly with a -6 goal differential. Jordan Binnington has not been on his game, but their defense has been inadequate so far. They're stacked with name such as Torey Krug, Justin Faulk, and Colton Parayko, but their bottom three are in need of much improvement.

Jordan Kyrou currently leads the team with 6 points, but his shooting percentage of 13.3% will naturally come down. He's a blossoming player with much promise, making him a great candidate to be offered in exchange for Dermott. One can assume this will not be a 1-1 trade, however. Dermott would certainly play for the Blues full time, replacing either Carl Gunnarsson or Vince Dunn.
