Auston Matthews Not Satisfied With His Line's Play

Auston Matthew's was thrilled to learn that the NHL would do away with the embedded pucks used to track analytics. Many made fun of his comments after he claimed to have felt a difference between the normal rubber pucks and the high-tech pucks. He's now on a scoring streak, but he want's more out of his line.

Whether or not the puck was the issue will never be known. Regardless, Matthews has now scored 5 goals in his last 5 games. He reportedly dropped a significant amount of weight over the offseason thanks to the help of Patrick Kane's trainer. For whatever reason, Matthews seems honed in, focused, and determined to take the Toronto Maple Leafs to the next level this season.

The Leafs are second in the North Division and will seek to take down the Montreal Canadiens in the standings. Matthews spoke to the Toronto Sun on Monday and discussed how and why he and his line mates can improve their game.

I'd like to see our line... I feel like we have little dips and then we have moments where we're really on it, creating a lot of offensive zone time. We want to stay consistent throughout the 60 minutes and apply pressure nonstop on the other team and collectively play in the offensive zone as much as possible.

It has been a bit of a shotgun start to the season, so it'll be nice to re-energize, regroup as a team.

Matthews has been playing with Mitch Marner and Zach Hyman since Joe Thornton was listed on injury reserve due to a fractured rib. The Leafs will take on the Vancouver Canucks who have been nothing short of awful in the last few games. Perhaps Matthews and the boys can get their line chemistry figured out before playing three consecutive games against the Canucks.
