Carolina Hurricanes' Teravainen Out With Concussion

's bumpy season continues. Carolina Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind'Amour announced today that the forward has been diagnosed with a concussion. 

The injury comes courtesy of a hit by Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Nikita Zadorov on Feb. 19. As the Finnish right winger was trying to enter the zone, Zadorov put all of his 6-foot-5 frame into him, knocking him solidly onto the ice. The Hurricanes would go on to win the game 5-3. 

Before the injury, Teräväinen picked up two assists on goals from Jacob Slavin and Martin Necas.

He has missed the last two games and will not travel with the team on their upcoming five-game road trip. 

"I'm hoping it's not going to be too long but, it's going to be a couple games, for sure," Brind'Amour said, adding, "I don't think he's going to be back anytime soon."

 

The 26-year-old has two goals, nine points on the year. 

On Feb. 15, he put up a four-point night in a 7-3 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. 

After trailing 3-1, the Canes stormed back with six unanswered goals. Teräväinen played a crucial role in the come from behind win for the team, assisting on two goals from Brock McGinn and one from Nino Niederreiter, while also scoring what would end up being the game winning goal 1:56 into the second period.

"Turbo" previously sat out three games in late January because of COVID-19 protocols and as a result, has only played 12 games so far this season.
