Henrik Lundqvist Back on the Ice 47 Days After Open-Heart Surgery

Washington Capitals' goalie Henrik Lundqvist tweeted a video of himself today working out in full gear, less than two months after having open-heart surgery.

"Working those legs with a steady pulse and drills with a lot of control," the caption on another video posted to Instagram stated. "Today was FUN!"

In December, it came as a bit of a shock to the hockey world when Lundqvist announced he would have to miss the entire 2021 season due to a heart condition. On Jan. 5, he had surgery to replace his aortic, aortic root and ascending aortic valves.

His regular updates on Twitter show he is having a healthy recovery.

In the aftermath of the announcement, it was feared by some opiners that the 38-year-old may not return to the net. As fitting as it would be for him to retire a New York Ranger, fans of the Washington Capitals hoped he would return for at least one game.

After spending 15 years with the Rangers, the team bought out the remaining years of his contract leaving him a free agent at the end of last season.

Lundqvist signed a $1.5 million one-year deal with the Caps in October. The heart condition was revealed during the physical exam as part of the deal.

It looks like we might just see him in a Capitals jersey before he retires.
