Hockey Insider Shuts Down Kings/Leafs Trade Rumor

Recently the Toronto Maple Leafs and Los Angeles Kings have been tied to a trade rumor involving Kings' goaltender Jonathan Quick. According to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, he does not see this deal happening for either club.

Of note we linked Quick to the Leafs back in August of 2020 and it now is just starting to take some legs...

As for Friedman, he noted in his 31 Thoughts blog that adding a veteran netminder was discussed in Toronto, however, having a 35-year-old netminder take two weeks off to quarantine, to then amp it up for some meaningful hockey, may be a recipe for disaster.

There were some Jonathan Quick rumours over the weekend. I don’t see it, even though I concede some circumstantial evidence: Quick’s fiery, competitive nature is the temperament Toronto likes; he’s tight with Jack Campbell; and the Leafs and Kings do deals together. However, he’s battled injuries, and, does it really make sense to put that 35-year-old body through a quarantine, then ramp him up in three weeks for critical games? Not to me, it doesn’t.

Sure, Friedman doesn't run the Leafs, but he makes a great point. Don't expect to see this trade come to fruition and expect Jack Campbell to start on Thursday when the Leafs play next.

From there, is anyone's guess and Leafs Nation should hope that Frederik Andersen gets healthy and the two can be ready to go in time for the playoffs.
