Leafs Nation Turning Their Backs on Freddie Andersen

The Toronto Maple Leafs lost another game on Wednesday as the Winnipeg Jets closed the gap between the top two teams in the North Division. While the Maple Leafs still sit 18-7-2, good for a tie for first place in the entire NHL, their fan base as taking exception to goaltender Frederik Andersen's performance.

The Danish netminder, who is headed for free-agency this offseason has been shaky at best this season, compiling a record of 12-5-2, with a questionable .903 save % and a 2.76 GAA. Andersen's goals against ranks him 36th in the league, while his save % is ranked 45th!

The Maple Leafs have received some steady backup play from Michael Hutchinson and Jack Campbell this year with the latter 3-0-0 with a 1.33 GAA and a .951 save %, ranking him 2nd in the league in both categories. Campbell is expected back as early as this upcoming weekend and will certainly see some more minutes in the Leafs' crease.

It seems with Andersen's shaky play along with his upcoming contract demands, has Leafs Nation becoming more comfortable with the idea of Campbell being the starter. The 29-year-old is two years younger than Andersen and signed next season for $1.65 million on the cap.

Letting Andersen walk would likely save the Maple Leafs $6-7.5 million dollars on the cap for the next, what could be three seasons.

Here's some of Leafs Nation's thoughts on the goaltending situation in Toronto:
