Maple Leafs and Columbus Talking Another Trade

According to sources close to the Toronto Maple Leafs, the team has engaged in further trade talks with the Columbus Blue Jackets. And while these two teams completed a minor deal recently, it's apparently stemmed some further conversations with bigger names included.

The deal would see Boone Jenner and Nick Foligno head to the Maple Leafs in return for Alexander Kerfoot, Pierre Engvall, Timothy Liljegren and a draft pick, which could be conditional based on Foligno re-signing in Toronto. The Maple Leafs may also have to include a sweetener as they will require the Blue Jackets to retain some of Foligno's salary remaining for this season.

This deal would provide the Maple Leafs with some more toughness and character to their lineup. Foligno and Jenner are both very hard to play against and would surely bring another element to the Leafs lineup that along with Wayne Simmonds returning would totally change the landscape of the team.

Jenner is also signed for next season at a reasonable number $3.75 million, and so far this season he's recorded eight goals, 15 points in 30 games. Foligno on the other hand has scored 12 points in 30 games.

In Kerfoot and Engvall the Blue Jackets would be getting a couple of versatile forwards who play with a ton of speed. At 26 and 24-years-old respectfully, the Blue Jackets would be getting younger and hitting a reset button heading into next season.

The Leafs currently have a 'break' in their schedule and it's been reported multiple times this will be where general manager Kyle Dubas makes his move. Kerfoot and Engvall were both included in our recent article citing the most likely to be traded Maple Leafs and from all accounts it sounds like that could be happening sooner than later.
