Philadelphia Flyers in Trade Market for Defenseman

According to Pierre LeBrun of TSN, the Philadelphia Flyers are in the trade market for a top-four defenseman that can help them this season and beyond. One name that continues to be linked to the team is Nashville Predators defenseman, Mattias Ekholm.

Ekholm is a 30-year-old defender who has this season and next on his contract, paying him $3.75 million per season. At 6'4 and 215lbs, Ekholm is as solid as they come with his all-around game and can immediately step into the Flyers top-four and make them better.

If we date ourselves back to when Jake Muzzin was traded from the Los Angeles Kings to the Toronto Maple Leafs, he also had one and a half years remaining on his contract and the Leafs paid a first-round pick along with a young roster player and prospect. Philly can expect the price for Ekholm to be the same.

The Flyers have their first-round pick next season and would they be willing to part with Joel Farabee? That's hard to say at this point but you can bet David Poile and the Predators will be asking for the 21-year-old stud.

At 11-5-3 on the season, they will be going for it in Philadelphia and we'll have to wait and see if they're willing to pay the price to add Mattias Ekholm to their mix.
