Rumor: New Jersey Devils To Acquire Anthony Mantha From The Detroit Red Wings

The Detroit Red Wings have invested a significant period of time into the development of Anthony Mantha. Although he is a great player, the 6'5" power forward has not yet lived up to his high expectations. The Red Wings have finally found a trade partner in the New Jersey Devils.

The Devils are just one point away from the East Division's last place team, but their roster is stacked with potential stars waiting to breakout. Nico Hischier, Jack Hughes and Jesper Bratt are phenomenal talents, and that doesn't include Nikita Gusev, P.K. Subban, or MacKenzie Blackwood. They are seeking to add Mantha to their roster with the hopes of adding size and goal scoring talent.

Craig Custance of The Athletic believes Steve Yzerman is willing to trade Mantha for the right price. An anonymous NHL Executive had this to say about the trade.

I wouldn't be shocked if Yzerman moved one of his top forwards. I think he's listening on a lot of things.

Corey Masisak of The Athletic believes the Red Wings will seek a return of a young high-end talent and/or first-round picks in exchange for Mantha. Mantha may not like being traded to another basement dwelling team, but their 3 year prognosis is far better than his current situation in Detroit. Nonetheless, Mantha has 6 goals and 4 assists in 26 games played. He has not lived up to his 4 year, $22.8 million contract so far. Will that be a consideration in these trade talks?
